Personal Track Safety

Are you a train?

No...WELL KEEP OFF THE TRACKS THEN!

Thats my explanation of Personal Track Safety.

Today I passed my exam for Personal Track Safety, otherwise known as PTS. I am now qualified to walk on and around railway lines. Usually we don't walk trackside in the course of our normal duties, it's only for when we absolutely need to, such as an organised train evacuation or other emergencies.

Remember, if you have a fight with a train, we both know who would win. Please don't ever go near railway lines, however, if someones life is in danger do the smart thing and call 999.

Also, stay behind the yellow line at all times.

Most of you reading this probably think that this stuff is really obvious but you would be surprised. I personally think that Network Rail and the Train Operating Companies should fund a new TV/Radio campaign on railway safety.

For anyone wishing to learn more about Personal Track Safety then please click here - That information is provided by Network Rail.

That's all folks.

Steve

NR are doing quite a lot at the moment - particularly targeted at a younger audience, through the Rail Life project - more at http://rail-life-talk.tumblr.com

A lot of the campaigns are targeted, like the recent Live Wire video which was released to coincide with a big electrification project in the North - and level crossing awareness continues to be a big focus. Other campaigns like See Track, Think Train have also been quite effective.

The funding isn't limitless though, so I guess it's all about prioritising the biggest risks. Personally, I think we could learn from the Australian Metro and their viral campaign 'Dumb Ways to Die' - more at

Well SWT had a photo competition (results will be blogged soon)

Why don't they hold a safety competition. We have so many talented people on our network. I would love to be involved so maybe you could get that idea put forward.

Very good reply and I love the link.
